DC Industrial Engineer

About the role

takealot.com, a leading South African online retailer, is seeking a DC Industrial Engineer to join its Supply Chain team at the KwaZulu‑Natal Distribution Center. The role focuses on evaluating and improving core processes, conducting time‑and‑motion studies, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the warehouse.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate core DC processes and develop creative solutions to business problems.
• Design and conduct time‑and‑motion studies to establish standard work routines and productivity targets.
• Collaborate with Heads of Departments and the Development team to communicate findings and recommendations.
• Perform routine audits of systems and operational processes.
• Advise on KPI improvements and conduct root‑cause analysis for operational issues.
• Analyze data to identify storage optimisation, material handling, and process conformance opportunities.
• Develop and maintain work standards, 5S initiatives, and in‑house forecasting models for packaging, consumables, assets and labour.
• Support lean‑based continuous improvement projects, including Six Sigma and simulation design.
• Assist in facility design requirements and develop tools to aid day‑to‑day operations.

Required profile

• Solutions‑oriented with a can‑do attitude and strong attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience managing mini‑projects and comfortable with change.
• Critical and systems thinking, passionate about improvement.
• BEng Industrial Engineering, B.Com Logistics or a related degree.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in operational project or process management.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office packages.
• Knowledge of drafting, design and modelling software.
• Familiarity with simulation and modelling tools (advantageous).
