Data Engineer – Visualization Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a Data Engineer with a focus on data visualization to join our Cape Town team. The role involves creating cloud‑based visualization products and analytical software for internal stakeholders in engineering, manufacturing and wellbore physics simulation.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate technical concepts and statistical models to stakeholders and customers.
• Identify and design novel data products that add value to the business.
• Develop data models for complex business processes using standard database tools.
• Design and build advanced visualisations with tools such as Vega and Power BI, ensuring performance and statistical correctness.
• Collaborate with data scientists to deploy and interpret machine‑learning models and generate visual outputs from large‑language‑model prompts.
• Make architectural decisions regarding data processing (stream vs batch) and historical data management.
• Produce documentation and promote adoption of analytics products across the organisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics).
• Ability to deliver projects with minimal supervision.
• Strong technical communication skills and ability to build relationships with internal customers.
• Awareness of business needs and challenges within the energy sector.
