Data Analyst – Executive Dashboards & Reporting

About the role

Icebolethu Group, a funeral assurance group and authorised financial service provider, is looking for a Data Analyst to turn its data estate (policy administration, claims, finance and operational data) into actionable business intelligence. The role is a foundational hire in the Group ICT Department, based at the Durban offices, and aims to make ICT an insights-driven partner for executive decisions, statutory compliance and operational optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Extract, transform, validate and model data from core Group systems (Policy Administration, Claims, Finance/ERP, CRM).
• Build and maintain interactive management dashboards and reporting pipelines in Power BI, and manage the analytics catalogue, data dictionaries and metric definitions.
• Produce weekly operational performance packs and the monthly Executive Analytics Pack, and run deep-dive analyses on behalf of Executive Management.
• Work with Finance and Compliance to prepare and submit regulatory and statutory reports such as FSCA returns and internal audit packs.
• Run data-quality checks, track anomalies with source-system owners, and work with developers and system administrators on data accessibility, security and pipelines.
• Review with Sales, Operations and Finance to promote self-service BI and shape the analytics roadmap.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) and a Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related quantitative discipline.
• At least 3 years' experience as a Data or Business Intelligence Analyst.
• Proven success delivering executive-level dashboards and reports, preferably in insurance, financial services, banking or a similarly regulated sector.
• Power BI Associate (PL-300) or Azure Data Fundamentals certification highly preferred.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL (joins, stored procedures, performance tuning).
• Power BI (DAX, Power Query, dashboard design) and Excel (pivot tables, Power Pivot).
• Relational database design, data warehousing and ETL principles; exposure to Azure Data Services or Python/R is a major advantage.
