Crop Farming Departmental Manager

About the role

The Midland Group is looking for an experienced Crop Farming Departmental Manager to lead agricultural operations across multiple sites in South Africa. You will be responsible for planning, overseeing and continuously improving crop production while ensuring sustainable practices.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement crop farming plans, including hectare allocation, seed selection, and fertilizer usage.
• Schedule, coordinate and supervise planting, cultivation and harvesting activities.
• Conduct calibrations, collect and treat soil and ground samples, and perform map evaluations for land use.
• Manage spraying operations, including drone‑based surveying, monitoring and application.
• Maintain accurate records of inputs, outputs and operational performance, and prepare regular reports.
• Utilise drone technology for land surveying, crop health monitoring and precision spraying.
• Evaluate processes for continuous improvement, sustainability and efficiency.
• Travel to multiple farm sites across South Africa as required.
• Perform routine administrative tasks and any other duties assigned.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of agricultural and crop farming practices.
• Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
• Flexibility to work extended hours during peak seasons.
• Proven managerial experience.
