Crane Operator

About the role

Weir is seeking a skilled Crane Operator to join its mining technology team at the Port Elizabeth site. You will operate overhead cranes safely to support machining and production activities, contributing to the company’s sustainable mining initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Operate overhead cranes to load and unload parts on and off machine centers, including turning parts as required.
• Assist machinists with clamping and unclamping workpieces to ensure smooth machining operations.
• Perform part handling tasks such as deburring sharp edges and cleaning parts to meet quality and safety standards.
• Support machine maintenance by removing swarf and transporting it to designated skips, keeping the work area clean.
• Adhere to zero‑harm safety practices, wearing appropriate PPE and following work instructions at all times.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
• Previous experience operating an overhead crane.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and work instructions.
• Valid overhead crane licence is advantageous.
