Construction Manager – Marine Fabrication & Installation

About the role

The Construction Manager (Marine) will lead all construction, fabrication, assembly, heavy installation, rigging, marine operations, testing and commissioning activities for major marine and heavy‑engineering infrastructure projects at the Transnet Sturrock Dry Dock. This on‑site contract role ensures safe, efficient and timely delivery of works in line with approved drawings, specifications and project schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Manage fabrication, assembly, heavy installation, rigging, marine construction and commissioning activities.
• Lead heavy‑lifting and rigging operations according to lift studies, method statements and project procedures.
• Coordinate yard activities, logistics, transportation, load‑outs, float‑outs and installation works.
• Ensure compliance with approved welding procedures (WPS), inspection and test plans (ITP), NEC3 contractual requirements and statutory regulations.
• Oversee structural steel fabrication, welding, NDT inspections, coatings, dimensional control, mechanical outfitting and marine systems installation.
• Control construction programmes, resources, productivity, subcontractors, budgets and reporting.
• Monitor progress, implement corrective actions and drive safe execution of all heavy‑lift, marine, fabrication and installation activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Marine Engineering or related discipline.
• Registered Professional Construction Manager (Pr.CM) with SACPCMP.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Experience with NEC3 ECC contracts.
