Compliance Officer – Market Conduct (Investment Management)

About the role

This position is an advisory‑focused compliance role within a leading South African investment management group that oversees more than R880 billion in assets. You will act as a trusted regulatory partner, providing practical guidance on product design, fund structuring and client‑facing processes across multiple regulated entities.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary compliance advisor to investment, product, distribution and operational teams.
• Interpret and apply market‑conduct legislation (FAIS, CISCA, FMA, Hedge Fund Regulations, PFA, POPIA) across a multi‑entity structure.
• Partner with business‑change, product and legal teams to embed compliance considerations early in new initiatives.
• Advise senior stakeholders and governance committees on regulatory risk and upcoming legislative changes.
• Support the development of risk‑based monitoring plans and assist the monitoring function.
• Prepare regulatory submissions, engage with the FSCA, and support inspections and thematic reviews.
• Produce clear advisory reports for management and governance forums.
• Deliver targeted compliance training and stay current on industry regulatory developments.

Required profile

• Matric and a relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Compliance, Finance, Investment Management or Business.
• Approved by the FSCA as a Compliance Officer.
• Professional compliance certification such as CISA or equivalent.
• Proven experience advising on market‑conduct matters within an investment‑management environment.
• Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business guidance.
