Community Development Coordinator

About the role

The Community Development Coordinator will lead the implementation of Conservation South Africa’s regenerative rangeland management and sustainable livestock production programmes in the Umzimvubu Catchment. Based in Thaba Chicha, the role bridges technical rangeland approaches with community governance, ensuring inclusive and effective grazing practices.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate field delivery of rangeland and livestock initiatives across target villages.
• Supervise, mentor and support a team of village‑based Stewardship Officers.
• Facilitate the establishment and governance of community grazing associations.
• Engage communities through capacity‑building workshops and participatory planning.
• Monitor progress, capture lessons learned and report on programme outcomes.
• Liaise with government agencies, NGOs and development partners to align activities with broader landscape initiatives.

Required profile

• 2‑4 years of experience in community stewardship, natural resource management or rural development.
• Proven work with communal grazing systems and livestock producers.
• Experience supervising field teams or community facilitators.
• Background in the Eastern Cape or similar rural contexts is advantageous.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively within the catchment.
• Ability to work under challenging field conditions.
