Communications Officer – 3-year Contract

About the role

The University of the Free State is seeking a Communications Officer to join its Advancement Department for a three‑year contract. The role focuses on creating and curating high‑quality content that translates complex academic and research information into engaging communication for diverse audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, write, edit and curate content for institutional communication platforms, ensuring alignment with editorial, brand and communication standards.
• Identify, source and coordinate institutional stories by collaborating with faculties, departments, centres and support divisions.
• Support integrated communication campaigns by creating messaging, coordinating content production and contributing to amplification and evaluation.
• Maintain the Content Hub initiatives and ensure consistent stakeholder engagement across channels.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, Public Relations or a related field.
• Minimum two years of relevant experience in corporate communications, media, journalism, public relations or content development.
• Experience in higher‑education communication and campaign support is desirable.
