Cold Store Supervisor

About the role

Our client is looking for an experienced Cold Store Supervisor to manage frozen and chilled storage operations in Durban. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate stock levels, supervising warehouse staff, and ensuring orders are picked accurately and on time while driving strong stock‑control and loss‑prevention practices.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and control all frozen and chilled stock, including movements, transfers, returns and adjustments.
• Conduct daily, weekly and monthly stock counts and investigate discrepancies.
• Ensure stock is stored in the correct location, temperature zone and that FIFO/FEFO procedures are followed.
• Monitor expiry dates, short‑dated and slow‑moving inventory.
• Supervise pickers, general workers and temporary staff; allocate daily picking duties and monitor productivity.
• Guarantee orders are picked accurately, completely and on time; investigate picking errors.
• Monitor freezer and chiller temperatures, report deviations and maintain food‑safety, hygiene and PPE standards.
• Maintain accurate records of stock, picking, temperature checks and staff attendance.
• Escalate operational risks and unresolved stock discrepancies to management.

Required profile

• Previous experience in warehouse, freezer, chiller or cold‑chain operations.
• Experience supervising warehouse employees or pickers.
• Good understanding of stock control, FIFO and FEFO principles.
• Ability to work in frozen and chilled environments and meet dispatch deadlines.
• Basic computer and administrative skills.
• Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and occupational health and safety requirements.

Required skills

• Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
• Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
• Use of warehouse scanning systems.
