Cloud Data Engineer – Azure, Fabric & Databricks (6‑Month Contract, Hybrid)

About the role

A leading South African bank is expanding its cloud data engineering capability and seeks an experienced Cloud Data Engineer to build and optimise enterprise‑scale data platforms that enable advanced analytics, AI and real‑time business insights. This is a 6‑month contract position based in Sandton with a hybrid work model.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable cloud‑based data pipelines on Microsoft Azure.
• Build batch and real‑time ingestion solutions using Azure Data Factory, Azure Event Hub or Kafka.
• Develop enterprise data solutions with Microsoft Fabric and Databricks.
• Engineer high‑performance data lakes and data warehouses.
• Create PySpark/Python transformation pipelines and optimise performance.
• Implement DataOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts and software engineers.

Required profile

• 5+ years of data engineering experience, preferably in financial services.
• Proven track record building cloud‑native Azure data platforms at scale.
• Hands‑on experience with both structured and unstructured data.
• Strong background in Agile delivery methods.
