Cloud Data Engineer – 12‑Month Contract

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Data Engineer to join a leading South African bank. In this 12‑month contract you will design, build and optimise cloud‑based data platforms that enable analytics, AI and data‑driven decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable batch and real‑time data pipelines on Azure.
• Build robust ETL/ELT solutions using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric.
• Develop and maintain enterprise Data Lakes and Data Warehouses.
• Implement DataOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and workflow orchestration.
• Ensure data quality, governance, lineage and metadata management.
• Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, architects and business stakeholders.
• Support cloud security, data privacy and POPIA compliance.
• Monitor and optimise platform performance, scalability and reliability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science or related field.
• 2‑5 years of experience in data engineering, BI or software engineering.
• Proven experience building enterprise cloud data solutions.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
