About the role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in the Neonatal ICU provides advanced, high‑quality nursing care to critically ill newborns. Acting as a clinical resource and leader, the CNS supports staff, mentors learners, and drives best‑practice initiatives within the unit.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the shift, coordinating competent nursing care for all patients.
• Supervise and precept less‑experienced nurses and new staff.
• Provide expert clinical consultation and act as a role model for best practice.
• Participate in research, development and review of specialty best practices.
• Allocate staff according to patient acuity and skill requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Netcare policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with advanced qualification or specialization in neonatal care.
• Demonstrated leadership and preceptorship experience.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
• Ability to work effectively in a high‑stress, multidisciplinary environment.
