Clinical Coder (Remote, Fixed Term)

About the role

Mediclinic Southern Africa Corporate Office in Stellenbosch is hiring one Clinical Coder on a fixed-term basis, working remotely. The main purpose of the role is to ensure high-quality and timely clinical coding with high integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct procedural coding in line with coding rules, conventions, standards and guidelines.
• Conduct diagnostic coding in line with coding rules, conventions, standards and guidelines.
• Take part in quality improvement initiatives that raise the quality of coding.
• Liaise with the Coding Centre leadership on the clinical information received.

Required profile

• Essential: Clinical Coding qualification and clinical coding experience.
• Desired: Anatomy and Physiology training, and experience in a private healthcare facility, theatre and clinical coding.
• Internal employees on a fixed-term contract must apply through an external candidate profile.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ICD-10, CSSA and SADA rules and guidelines, and the ability to apply them in the workplace.
• Familiarity with coding systems such as ICD-10 books, the latest CCSA coding books, the clinical coding system (Encoder), the South African Coding Master Industry Table (MIT) and patient administrative systems.
• Understanding of professional conduct, communication and teamwork.
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
