Civil Engineer – Roads & Highways

About the role

We are looking for a Civil Engineer to join our Roads & Highways division in Cape Town. The role involves delivering design, modelling and technical support for road and geometric projects while collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and modelling of road and highway projects from planning through detailed construction drawings.
• Supervise small teams of technicians, students, draughtsmen and graduates.
• Maintain drawing standards, oversee construction supervision and provide client‑facing service.
• Prepare tender documents, bills of quantities, cost estimates and final tender packages.
• Produce project reports, ensure compliance with codes of practice and SMEC quality procedures.
• Support senior engineers in project management and take the lead when required.
• Work with municipal departments to capture requirements and develop specifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or higher) from an accredited institution.
• Minimum three years of practical civil engineering experience, preferably in roads and highways.
• Understanding of local infrastructure markets and basic project management principles.
• Ability to plan workload, meet deadlines and maintain high‑quality reporting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with civil design software such as Bentley MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D.
• Experience using project management software.
