Civil Design Engineer – Roads & Infrastructure

About the role

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Civil Design Engineer to join its civil infrastructure team. The role focuses on the design and delivery of roads, stormwater, bulk earthworks, water and sewer infrastructure, requiring advanced Civil 3D and IDAS capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead geometric and detailed road design, including alignments, cross‑sections, intersections and pavement design.
• Design stormwater management systems such as drainage networks, attenuation ponds, channels and culverts, and perform hydraulic modelling.
• Undertake bulk earthworks design, balancing and optimisation for large infrastructure projects.
• Design gravity and pressurised pipelines for water, sewer and stormwater, including hydraulic analysis and profile design.
• Produce detailed engineering reports, contract documentation and coordinate with structural, geotechnical and electrical disciplines.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and attend site visits and client presentations.

Required profile

• BEng/BTech in Civil Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Professional registration as Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech.
• Strong knowledge of South African civil engineering standards and local authority approval processes.
• Valid driver’s licence and own transport.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (corridors, assemblies, surfaces, pipe networks, quantities).
• Strong working knowledge of IDAS for hydraulic modelling.
• Road design, stormwater drainage, bulk earthworks, and pipeline design expertise.
• Hydraulic analysis and profile design for water and sewer systems.
