Chief Technologist (Civil) - Sanitation Operations

About the role

eThekwini's Water and Sanitation Directorate, within its Sanitation Operations division, is recruiting a Chief Technologist (Civil) in Durban. The role advises on wastewater network operations, controls sewage pump stations and sewer systems, and oversees the division's technical, operational and contractual work.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on the principles, procedures and applications of wastewater network operations
• Control the operation of sewage pump stations conveying sewage to the treatment works
• Control the repair, cleaning, operation and monitoring of trunk and reticulation sewers
• Establish safe working procedures and analyse statistical reports and performance data for future planning
• Decide on remedial measures and overall work priorities
• Control personnel performance, productivity and discipline, and oversee the division's contractual and financial control
• Disseminate technical information and provide reports

Required profile

• Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor of Engineering Technology (NQF Level 7) in Civil Engineering
• Registered as a professional Engineering Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
• Valid motor vehicle driving licence
• 5 years of relevant post-registration experience
