Chief Surveyor

About the role

The Chief Surveyor will lead the survey section, ensuring the delivery of accurate and cost‑efficient surveying services to support production units. This senior position requires strong technical knowledge, leadership abilities, and compliance with mining legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and control staff within the survey department.
• Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, Water Act, Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act and related codes of practice.
• Oversee research, investigations, reporting and recommendations to senior management.
• Audit, mentor and coach subordinates, providing timely feedback on management requests.
• Maintain costs within budget, manage inventory and recommend waste‑reduction initiatives.
• Support stakeholders to achieve team objectives and uphold safety standards.

Required profile

• Grade 12/NQF Level 4 (essential) with a Minerals Surveying Degree or NQF 7 equivalent (desirable).
• Mine Survey Certificate of Competence (essential).
• 4‑6 years of survey experience and 2 years of MRM experience.
• Valid medical certificate or fitness to obtain one.
• Strong communication skills in English and ability to work independently.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (Level 3).
• Proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint.
• Experience using SAP.
