Candidate Architect – Two‑Year Contract

About the role

The Western Cape Government is seeking a Candidate Architect on a two‑year fixed‑term basis to support infrastructure programme delivery. This entry‑level position offers a structured remuneration package and the chance to gain the experience required for professional registration with SACAP.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in infrastructure programme and project planning in line with the Infrastructure Delivery Management System (IDMS).
• Support implementation, monitoring, commissioning and evaluation of infrastructure projects.
• Conduct site inspections across the Western Cape, including occasional overnight stays.
• Prepare reports, submissions and presentations in English.
• Research emerging technologies and geographic information management options for the department.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field.
• Registered as a Candidate Architect with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP).
• Valid Code B/EB driver’s licence and willingness to travel within the Western Cape.
• Access to reliable internet and a suitable home workspace for hybrid working.
• Commitment to completing the SACAP professional registration exam requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience using Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
• Strong computer literacy and ability to produce professional documentation.
