Business Development Manager

About the role

Our client, a leading player in the diesel generator industry, is seeking a Business Development Manager to build and manage a distributor and service network across South Africa. The role focuses on driving sales growth, establishing strategic partnerships, and supporting the allocated sales team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and negotiate distributor and service agreements to expand market coverage.
• Manage and support allocated sales staff, monitoring external sales results for executive reporting.
• Achieve annual sales targets and prepare revenue budgets aligned with product plans.
• Identify and pursue project opportunities, including cold‑calling, tender briefings, and trade show participation.
• Prepare strategic costing, market analysis, and proposals for new and existing products.
• Collaborate with engineering to design competitive solutions and oversee credit vetting processes.
• Maintain up‑to‑date sales pipeline data in CRM and quote registers.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years business development and sales management experience in the diesel generator sector.
• Proven track record of establishing distributor networks for power equipment.
• Formal qualification in Business Management (advantageous) and technical knowledge of electrical or power generating systems (advantageous).
• Valid Code 8 driver’s licence and passport.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the MS Office Suite.
