Branch Manager – Large Grocery Wholesale/Retail

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Branch Manager to lead a large grocery wholesale/retail outlet in Johannesburg. The role reports to the General Manager and is responsible for the overall performance of the store, including sales, finance, operations and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the GM in managing approximately 135 staff members, including scheduling, performance monitoring and handling CCMA cases.
• Oversee stock taking, ordering, inventory control and daily cash‑ups.
• Manage GRVs, buying, merchandising, store marketing and advertising initiatives.
• Set and monitor sales targets, budgeting, expense and shrinkage controls.
• Prepare daily sales reports, loss‑control and risk‑management activities.
• Ensure health, safety and hygiene compliance.
• Lead HR functions such as recruitment, training and employee relations.
• Handle store finance administration and related reporting.

Required profile

• 4–8 years (or more) experience as a Store Manager or Operations Manager in a large food‑grocery wholesale/retail environment (e.g., Spar, Makro).
• Proven track record of achieving operational and financial targets.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to work in the North West region.
