Bookkeeper - Expenses (Permanent)

About the role

Ekurhuleni Housing Company is hiring a permanent bookkeeper to keep track of all financial transactions of its businesses, ensuring that money earned and spent is properly accounted for. The role also prepares accounts and checks the accuracy of the balance sheet within set timeframes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain an accurate trial balance and ledger, and generate monthly financial accounts
• Calculate income tax and prepare supporting documentation for submission and payment
• Ensure all relevant support documentation is attached to requisitions and that creditors' accounts are reconciled
• Authorise journal entries and prepare standard and ad-hoc financial reports, including budget analysis, cash flow and forecasts using national Treasury and SHRA templates
• Capture receipts and payments from the bank statement daily before 9 am, check cash book entries and allocate them to the correct general ledger accounts, and sign off bank reconciliations
• Manage unallocated receipts, petty cash (replenishment, transactions, issuance, reconciliation and reporting) and the payroll journal, reconcile payroll to the general ledger and prepare a monthly payroll report
• Process third-party and payroll creditor payments such as PAYE, UIF, medical aid and provident fund

Required profile

• Matric
• Degree in Accounting or equivalent; postgraduate diploma or honours in Accounting (advantageous)
• Training in accounting systems (advantageous)
• MFMA training (advantageous)
• 4 years of experience in full bookkeeping functions
