Bed Manager – Patient Flow Leadership

About the role

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking a Bed Manager to lead patient flow at Mitchells Plain Hospital. The role focuses on efficient bed management, quality assurance and resource optimisation within a public‑sector hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, guide, support and develop patient‑flow management at Mitchells Plain Hospital.
• Apply efficient information‑management processes using current health information systems for bed management activities.
• Participate in staff training, development and research activities.
• Manage resources with an emphasis on cost containment and report on quality‑assurance programmes related to bed management.

Required profile

• Health‑related qualification at NQF level 7 that enables registration with HPCSA, SANC or SAPC.
• Relevant experience as a health professional in a hospital setting; experience in bed‑management processes is preferred.
• Valid Code B/EB driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Computer literacy – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Knowledge of public‑sector bed‑management legislation and policy.
• Ability to promote quality patient care through setting, implementing and monitoring standards.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, decision‑making and conflict‑resolution abilities.
• Organisational skills and capacity to work under pressure, both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
