Banking Law Collections Attorney

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Banking Law Collections Attorney to independently manage a portfolio of banking and collections matters. The role involves full‑cycle litigation, from initial instruction through to judgment, settlement or finalisation, within a fast‑paced banking environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage High Court and Magistrates’ Court banking and collections litigation matters.
• Handle asset‑based collection matters, including vehicle finance, upliftment, repossession and foreclosure proceedings.
• Coordinate the Sheriff’s process for debt recovery and collections.
• Draft and settle pleadings, notices, affidavits, applications, heads of argument and other legal documents.
• Attend court appearances and manage matters through all litigation stages.
• Liaise with major banking institutions, using their systems and platforms, and provide regular client updates.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, court rules and procedural deadlines.
• Provide sound legal advice on collections, enforcement and recovery matters.

Required profile

• LLB degree and admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Minimum 5 years post‑admission experience, preferably in banking law, collections and litigation.
• Right of appearance in the High Court and proven litigation experience in both High Court and Magistrates’ Court.
• Strong background in banking and asset‑based collections, including vehicle finance and foreclosure matters.
• Experience working with major banks and their relevant platforms.
