Back-end Software Engineer (Python)

About the role

Takealot.com, South Africa's leading online retailer, is seeking a talented Back-end Software Engineer with strong Python expertise. You will work on high‑traffic e‑commerce systems, building robust features and improving existing services while collaborating with a fast‑growing engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend solutions that enhance customer experience and support business users.
• Architect, develop, and maintain high‑quality production code for complex, large‑scale systems.
• Implement and maintain REST and RPC APIs using Python.
• Write and maintain automation tests and improve functional and non‑functional testing practices.
• Participate in architecture reviews, incident response, and on‑call rotation for critical issues.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and provide progress updates.
• Contribute to internal documentation, tech talks, blog posts, and workshops.
