Audit Manager – External Audit Division

About the role

BDO South Africa is seeking an experienced Audit Manager to lead engagements within the External Audit Division at its Port Elizabeth office. Reporting to the Audit Partner, you will ensure audits are delivered efficiently, profitably, and to the highest quality standards while supporting business development initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate budgets, fees and manage any overruns in collaboration with the engagement partner.
• Oversee work‑in‑progress, write‑offs, fee queries and debtor management to guarantee timely and accurate client billing.
• Plan, execute and finalise audits, allocating staff and monitoring progress throughout the engagement.
• Maintain strong client relationships, delivering exceptional service and ensuring projects stay within agreed scope.
• Resolve audit‑opinion issues, escalating to the partner when necessary and documenting decisions.
• Mentor junior staff, conduct performance reviews and support their professional development.

Required profile

• CA(SA) qualification with at least 2 years post‑article management experience.
• Strong technical audit ability, high attention to detail and solid analytical/problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, capable of interacting with senior client executives.
• Professional judgment, self‑development mindset and ability to work collaboratively within audit teams.
• Effective planning, organising and control capabilities.
