Associate Wealth Manager - Family Office Practice

About the role

A boutique multi-family office in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, is expanding its Family Office Practice and is looking for an Associate Wealth Manager. The firm provides investment management and family office services to high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth families, operating across domestic and international markets. The AWM is the primary client contact for an allocated panel of family office clients and reports to the Director / Head of Client Advisory.

Key responsibilities

• Attend client review meetings with the Wealth Manager and produce structured minutes within 24 hours, naming, owning and dating every action item.
• Own the action register for the panel and manage all meeting logistics, including scheduling, client pre-reading and correspondence.
• Instruct the Client Services team on implementation tasks, follow up on delegated actions and act as the single point of contact for client service matters.
• Prepare client proposals, initially alongside the Investment Specialist, and own them over time.
• Manage provisional tax planning with external tax practitioners and own CGT calculations for proposals.
• Act as first point of contact for family office matters such as property, estates, trusts, offshore structures and insurance, coordinating expert input and driving resolution.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of each client's family structure, finances and preferences, keep client records current in the practice management system, and set up and schedule client reviews independently.

Required profile

• 3 to 5 years in wealth management, private banking or a family office.
• CFP qualification, or demonstrably in progress with a clear completion timeline.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a client panel independently.
• Strong written communication, high attention to detail, sound critical thinking, emotional intelligence and judgement in client situations.

Required skills

• XPlan or comparable CRM and practice management experience.
• Competency in CGT calculations and provisional tax processes.
• Familiarity with leading South African investment platforms.
