Associate Professor – Politics & International Relations

About the role

The University of Johannesburg invites applications for an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics, Faculty of Humanities. The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic community, contributing to teaching, research and departmental leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Politics and International Relations, including large lectures of up to 150 students.
• Supervise postgraduate research projects and publish accredited scholarly work.
• Participate in curriculum development and blended‑learning initiatives.
• Assume administrative duties within the department and support academic governance.

Required profile

• PhD (or equivalent NQF Level 10 qualification) in Politics or International Relations.
• Minimum five years of lecturing experience at university level.
• Demonstrated ability to teach large groups and engage with undergraduate curricula.
• Experience in media engagement, opinion writing and scholarly publication, preferably on decolonisation, SoTL, 4IR or SDGs.
• Previous administrative or leadership experience is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Experience using Blackboard or similar academic learning management systems.
