Associate Partnerships & Programme Officer, SA-TIED (P-2)

About the role

UNU-WIDER, a United Nations University research institute, is hiring an Associate Partnerships & Programme Officer (P-2) for its Southern Africa – Towards Inclusive Economic Development (SA-TIED) programme in Pretoria, South Africa. The officer is the primary programme management and partnerships focal point for SA-TIED, coordinating day-to-day implementation, managing relationships with institutional partners and overseeing planning and reporting. The position is on-site in Pretoria, and willingness to work long-term there is a strict requirement.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day implementation of the programme with UNU-WIDER staff in South Africa, management in Finland and the SA-TIED workstream leads, and prepare work plans, budgets, results frameworks, schedules and reports for donors and governance bodies.
• Coordinate governance processes, monitor progress against work plans and results frameworks, and flag implementation risks and opportunities.
• Manage programme operations, including workshops, policy dialogues, training, study visits, procurement, consultant recruitment, contracting and travel, and monitor expenditure and compliance.
• Contribute to policy bridging and uptake of research, advocate for evidence-based policymaking, and support briefings, dissemination and stakeholder engagement.
• Maintain strategic partnerships with government counterparts, donors, academic institutions and UN organisations, and help shape UNU-WIDER's strategic priorities in South Africa and the Southern African region.
• Support donor engagement, proposal development and partnership management, and represent UNU-WIDER in meetings with partners, government and development agencies.
• Provide day-to-day coordination, mentoring and quality assurance to programme personnel, set and monitor team objectives and support professional development.
