Assistant Resident Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to support the construction supervision team on a large water treatment works project in the Kwa‑Zulu Natal South Coast. The role involves overseeing daily site activities, ensuring compliance with design and contractual requirements, and maintaining health, safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the construction supervision team, coordinating multidisciplinary activities on site.
• Monitor contractor programmes and budgets, prepare payment certificates and handle contractual claims.
• Control drawings, design documentation and maintain up‑to‑date records.
• Manage health‑and‑safety compliance and quality‑control procedures, including material testing.
• Produce monthly progress reports, incident logs and liaison with client, community and landowners.

Required profile

• BSc Eng, B Eng or B Tech degree in Civil/Structural/Social engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA and SACPCMP (mandatory).
• Minimum 10 years experience as Resident Engineer on multi‑disciplinary construction contracts of high value.
• Proven experience on water‑retaining structural projects exceeding R250 million.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially MS Project.
• Strong knowledge of construction supervision, contract administration and GCC 2010/2015.
