Assistant Plumber - Hospitality

About the role

A well‑established hospitality establishment based in Stellenbosch is seeking a reliable, hardworking and motivated Assistant Plumber to join its maintenance team. The Assistant Plumber will support the Senior Plumber with the installation, maintenance, repair and inspection of plumbing systems across the property and associated facilities, ensuring safe and efficient water supply, drainage, sanitation and hot‑water systems while gaining practical technical experience.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of plumbing systems, fixtures, fittings and pipework.
• Support preventative maintenance programmes and routine inspections.
• Diagnose and repair leaks, blockages, burst pipes, faulty valves and water‑pressure issues.
• Maintain pumps, geysers, boilers, water heaters, pressure systems and related equipment.
• Perform basic pipe cutting, threading, soldering, fitting and assembly under supervision.
• Maintain drainage, sewerage, stormwater, irrigation and water‑reticulation systems.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and urgent call‑outs.
• Keep tools, equipment and work areas clean, safe and organised, complying with OHS requirements.

Required skills

• Basic plumbing qualification or apprenticeship (or studying towards one).
• 1–2 years’ experience in plumbing or building maintenance.
• Pipe cutting, threading, soldering, fitting and assembly.
• Maintenance of pumps, geysers, boilers and water‑heater systems.
• Knowledge of drainage, sewerage, stormwater, irrigation and water‑reticulation systems.
