Assistant Fleet Controller – Durban

About the role

Interwaste is looking for an Assistant Fleet Controller to support its Durban depot operations. This entry‑level position offers the chance to work in waste‑management logistics, ensuring vehicles are deployed efficiently and safely while contributing to the company’s sustainability goals.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and optimise vehicle routes to meet customer and landfill requirements.
• Allocate the correct vehicle based on waste classification.
• Monitor vehicle compliance via radio, mobile or direct contact and log all activities in the internal fleet system.
• Ensure vehicles are road‑worthy and meet Interwaste’s standards before dispatch.
• Maintain driver documentation, including inspections, dangerous‑goods permits and other required paperwork.
• Generate carry‑over reports and assist with overtime or resource planning alongside the Depot Manager.
• Track performance deviations using tachograph data and recommend corrective actions.
• Arrange alternative resources, such as rental vehicles or additional staff, when necessary.

Required profile

• Entry‑level professional with a strong interest in fleet operations and logistics.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow safety and compliance procedures.
• Good organisational skills and the capacity to prioritise multiple tasks.
• Willingness to work on‑site at the Durban depot.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of fleet management and routing principles.
• Familiarity with vehicle inspection documentation and dangerous‑goods regulations.
• Ability to use internal fleet tracking software and record data accurately.
