About the role
Join the culinary team at Mount Nelson, a Belmond Hotel, as an Assistant Baker on the night shift. You will work closely with the Pastry Chef to create high‑quality baked goods that enhance the hotel’s unique gastronomic experience.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the Pastry Chef in developing menu items, recipes, and costing.
- Prepare and bake breads, cakes, pastries, pies, cookies and other goods using hand mixers, electric mixers and ovens.
- Measure, weigh, and combine ingredients according to recipes; knead, roll, cut, and shape dough as needed.
- Monitor oven temperatures, mixing machines and other equipment throughout the baking process.
- Estimate daily production needs, set quotas and create production schedules.
- Ensure proper storage, packaging and labeling of finished products.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and uphold hygiene and safety standards.
- Supervise and guide junior staff, ensuring consistent quality and portion control.
Required profile
- 2‑3 years of experience in pastry or bakery environments.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Computer literate – proficient in MS Excel, MS Word and Gmail.
- Strong knowledge of hygiene and safety standards.
