Artisan Electrician (Level I and Level II)

About the role

eThekwini's Water and Sanitation Directorate, Sanitation Operations division, is recruiting Artisan Electricians (Level I and Level II) in Durban. The posts are subject to overtime and after-hours call-outs, and the Senior Artisan (Electrician) posts are interchangeable throughout the department at the discretion of the Deputy Head.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out medium voltage and low voltage preventative and breakdown maintenance.
• Replace electrical equipment that is damaged, unreparable or at the end of its economic life.
• Prioritise allocation of resources to service requests received.
• Ensure safe operation of the medium voltage system and comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and unit safety instructions.
• Interface with other disciplines and undertake administrative duties such as inventory management.
• Undertake supervisory duties and related assignments.

Required profile

• Level I: Trade-tested electrician with 2 years of relevant post-apprenticeship experience; preferred 3 years.
• Level II: Trade-tested electrician with 3 years of relevant post-apprenticeship experience; preferred 4 years.
• Level I: Valid basic first aid certificate (or completion within 6-12 months of appointment).
• Level II: Authorised without restriction to operate on MV systems, or eligible for MV authorisation within 9 months of appointment; also requires a valid basic first aid and basic safety certificate (or completion within 6-12 months).
• Both levels: valid motor vehicle driving licence.
