Artisan Assistant – Engineering Support (Mining)

About the role

The mining client is seeking an Artisan Assistant (Engineering) to support Artisans in the maintenance, repair and installation of mining equipment at its Mooinooi operation. This 12‑month fixed‑term position offers hands‑on experience in a dynamic underground mining environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist Artisans with maintenance, repair, servicing and installation of mining equipment and plant infrastructure.
• Prepare and organise tools, materials and equipment for maintenance activities.
• Operate and maintain engineering hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment under supervision.
• Dismantle, clean, inspect and re‑assemble mechanical components.
• Support planned preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs and shutdown activities.
• Perform routine inspections, report defects and unsafe conditions.
• Assist with safe lifting, moving and positioning of equipment using approved lifting equipment.
• Maintain workshop housekeeping and ensure tools are cleaned, inspected and stored correctly.
• Complete maintenance records, inspection checklists and job cards accurately.

Required profile

• 1‑2 years experience as an Artisan Assistant, Engineering Assistant or similar role in mining.
• Previous underground mining experience.
• Medically fit for mine site work and able to work shifts, overtime and standby.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with engineering hand tools.
• Proficiency using power tools and workshop equipment.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical maintenance and fabrication practices.
