Area Project Manager – Wastewater Design

About the role

The Area Project Manager will lead the design and delivery of wastewater infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with municipal standards and community expectations. This role involves overseeing complex designs, tender audits, and supporting the executive in capital works planning.

Key responsibilities

• Design wastewater reticulation, collector and trunk mains, pump stations, rising mains and ancillary works to best practice principles.
• Audit tender documentation for compliance with municipal legal and contractual requirements.
• Prepare reports for project committees and financial authorities.
• Engage with councillors and development forums to secure community acceptance and support.
• Contribute to policy development, design standards, and material specifications.
• Assist the Executive in capital works programme submissions and monitor project expenditures.
• Ensure optimal utilization of main power and effective service delivery to customers.
• Deputise for the Senior Manager of wastewater design when required.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (NQF Level 8) in Civil Engineering.
• Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• Valid motor vehicle driving licence.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years post‑registration.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
