Architect – Payments & OTC Portfolio

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Architect to lead the system architecture of our Payments & OTC portfolio. You will work closely with engineering and product leaders to ensure the design of our fiat payment, banking integrations, settlement and OTC desk solutions meets Luno’s high standards for security, compliance and scalability.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain a clear, up‑to‑date map of the portfolio’s systems, contracts and domain models.
• Author high‑level designs for new capabilities and review technical designs produced by engineering teams.
• Record architectural decisions and rationales to keep knowledge discoverable.
• Partner with product and engineering leadership to shape scope, sequencing and translate requirements into architectural guidance.
• Occasionally build proof‑of‑concepts to validate approaches while staying credible across the stack.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing complex, integration‑heavy backend systems in regulated financial environments.
• Strong ability to view architecture at a high altitude while understanding detailed implementation trade‑offs.
• Excellent communication skills to influence and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Experience with payment orchestration, banking APIs and settlement infrastructure.
• Familiarity with crypto or fintech platforms and regulatory compliance requirements.
