Actuarial Expert - Post-Retirement Medical Aid Consulting

About the role

Old Mutual is looking for an Actuarial Expert in Johannesburg to set the client strategy and own a portfolio of clients within its OMCC consulting function. The role is accountable for delivering post-retirement medical aid consulting, general actuarial, consulting, communication, group assurance and legal services to existing and new clients, and it evolves as the function expands.

Key responsibilities

• Set the strategic consulting direction and client ownership for a portfolio of OMCC clients, and manage the implementation of the strategy while monitoring results and adjusting it as needed.
• Provide, through OMCC consultants or independently, post-retirement medical aid and other consulting services to current and new clients.
• Develop, lead and manage the client strategy, and take part in product development and enhancement to stay up to date with market changes.
• Ensure systems and processes align with legislative requirements, and maintain strong relationships with clients, trustees and management committees to reduce risk, retain business and identify new opportunities.
• Manage expense and income budgets, source and implement continuous improvement in service delivery, resolve top-level service issues and conflicts, and ensure consistent client communication.
• Deliver consulting and advice services to contracted service levels, drive retention and growth against targets, market new and enhanced products, and work with sales teams on new business.

Required profile

• Nearly or newly qualified actuary with extensive insurance experience.
• Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Actuarial Science (required).
• Advantageous: MBA or commercial qualification.
• 10 years' track record in employee benefit, actuarial and post-retirement medical aid/pensions outsourcing.
• Track record in client relationship management at C-suite level.
• Appointments may be made at a lower role size depending on experience.
