Accountant – Financial Reporting & Controls

About the role

We are seeking a diligent Accountant to manage daily, weekly and monthly financial accounting activities. You will ensure accurate reporting, support budgeting, and act as a finance team leader when required.

Key responsibilities

• Perform reconciliations, journal processing, fixed‑asset administration, petty cash management, payments and payroll validation.
• Review sales, weighbridge, inventory, inter‑mill transactions and cost‑of‑sales reconciliations.
• Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts, variance analyses, financial reports and year‑end reporting packs.
• Support budgeting and forecasting by monitoring expenses, investigating variances and assisting department heads.
• Assist with inventory counts, reconcile variances and report stock discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, statutory requirements, VAT, tax regulations and internal controls.
• Coordinate internal and external audits, providing documentation and responding to queries.
• Act as finance team leader in the absence of the Financial Manager and provide cross‑functional support.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote best practices in financial controls.

Required profile

• Sound knowledge of financial and management accounting principles.
• Experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting and cost control.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Understanding of internal controls, compliance and audit requirements.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
