Accountant – Accounts Receivable & Payable

About the role

Our client, a heavy industrial engineering and manufacturing company, is looking for an Accountant to own the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions. You will ensure accurate customer and supplier records, process invoices and payments, and support the Financial Manager across reporting, budgeting, cash flow and compliance activities.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate customer and supplier accounts and supporting documentation.
• Prepare and process customer invoices, credit notes, statements and supplier invoices.
• Allocate receipts, monitor outstanding balances and follow up overdue payments.
• Match supplier invoices to purchase orders and goods‑received notes.
• Perform debtor, creditor, bank, balance‑sheet and general‑ledger reconciliations.
• Prepare supplier payment schedules and obtain approvals.
• Resolve account queries and investigate discrepancies.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing, including journals, accruals and provisions.
• Support preparation of management accounts, financial reports and annual statements.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis and variance reporting.
• Maintain cash‑flow monitoring, banking and cash‑book records.
• Assist with VAT returns, statutory submissions and audit schedules.
• Use Microsoft Excel and the company’s ERP system for reports, reconciliations and analyses.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Financial Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum two years of relevant accounting experience, including AR and AP.
• Practical experience preparing reconciliations, journals and financial reports.
• Understanding of month‑end processes and generally accepted accounting principles.
• Experience in a manufacturing, engineering or project‑based environment is preferred.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with an ERP or accounting software system.
