5G Wireless & MW Back Office (BO) Engineer

About the role

The role focuses on the operation, technical support and maintenance of 5G wireless products and microwave links. You will work closely with R&D, TAC, delivery teams and customers to ensure network stability and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Daily operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of 5G wireless equipment and part‑time microwave link O&M.
• Analyse product issues, produce root‑cause analyses and drive problem resolution.
• Provide back‑office technical support: remote fault analysis, configuration verification, log analysis and on‑site engineer assistance.
• Manage software upgrades, version control, health checks, preventive maintenance and network inspections.
• Monitor network alarms, KPIs and logs to identify and mitigate risks promptly.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve complex technical problems.
• Write technical documentation, operation guides and troubleshooting manuals.
• Stay updated on new 5G technologies and apply them to projects.
• Participate in on‑call duty, emergency response and major network support as required.
• Automate and optimise O&M processes using scripts or tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) or higher in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• 3–5+ years of experience in wireless telecommunications, with strong exposure to 4G/5G delivery, integration or BO/TAC/NOC support.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of 4G/5G RAN architecture and KPI troubleshooting.
• Fundamental understanding of microwave link management.
• Proficiency in Linux system administration and log diagnostics.
• Solid grasp of TCP/IP, routing and switching concepts.
• Experience with packet analysis tools such as Wireshark.
• Python or Shell scripting for automation.
• Familiarity with 5G SA, FWA or Private Network deployments.
• Basic knowledge of 5G Core components (AMF, SMF, UPF) and protocols (NGAP, GTP‑U, PFCP).
• Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM, Docker, Kubernetes).
