Ward Clerk – Paediatric Unit

About the role

The Paediatric Unit at Life Groenkloof Hospital is seeking a Ward Clerk to provide administrative support to the nursing team. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the clerk will ensure smooth inter‑departmental communication and efficient handling of patient and stock data.

Key responsibilities

• Perform basic secretarial duties and manage patient filing.
• Capture labour hours, overtime, night duties and other staffing data.
• Control stock levels, generate orders, and handle billing for pharmaceutical supplies.
• Maintain SAP reports, item master data and support formulary initiatives.
• Participate in cycle counts, stock takes and dead‑stock management.
• Respond to queries from doctors, staff and suppliers and ensure accurate patient account billing.
• Coordinate bookings and maintain good relationships with all hospital departments.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• At least 1 year of general administrative experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced, stressful environment.

Required skills

• Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Working knowledge of the SAP system (advantageous).
• Experience with stock control in a hospital setting (advantageous).
