US Tax Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced US Tax Manager to join our American accounting firm’s South Africa team. The role is fully remote and requires working EST business hours (8 am‑5 pm) to collaborate with US‑based colleagues and serve American clients. You will lead tax engagements, ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, and provide strategic tax advice.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review US tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts and other entities.
• Ensure timely compliance with federal, state and local tax filing requirements.
• Conduct tax planning, research and advisory services for a portfolio of clients.
• Review work of junior tax staff, provide guidance and maintain quality standards.
• Identify tax risks and opportunities, and recommend process improvements.
• Liaise with clients and internal teams to gather necessary tax information.
• Stay current with changes in US tax law, IRS regulations and related compliance rules.

Required profile

• Based in South Africa and able to work EST hours.
• Strong knowledge of US tax principles, IRS requirements and federal/state compliance.
• Prior experience with a US accounting firm or US tax clients is highly preferred.
• Proven track record preparing and reviewing US individual and business tax returns.
• Excellent communication, organisational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Self‑motivated, reliable and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
