Tax Controversy & Dispute Resolution Manager

About the role

Pwc is looking for an experienced manager to join its Tax Controversy and Dispute Resolution (TCDR) team within the national Corporate and International Tax practice. The role focuses on helping corporate and high‑net‑worth clients manage complex tax disputes with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and deliver strategic solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the operational client contact for a portfolio of corporate or high‑net‑worth clients.
• Advise clients on complex, uncertain tax dispute matters and coordinate with SARS, external counsel and subject‑matter specialists.
• Interpret and apply substantive and procedural tax legislation, including the Tax Administration Act and Dispute Resolution Rules.
• Draft and review correspondences, tax pleadings and other documentation to SARS.
• Implement agreed advice, manage billings, debtors and assignment budgeting.
• Mentor junior staff and ensure compliance with risk‑management procedures.

Required profile

• Relevant professional qualification – admitted attorney and/or postgraduate tax studies.
• 3‑7 years of tax advisory experience with demonstrable experience managing SARS tax disputes.
• Deep knowledge of tax administration matters and prior experience in a corporate advisory or reputable law firm environment.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
