Shift Supervisor – Chemical Manufacturing

About the role

The company is a chemical manufacturing firm seeking a Shift Supervisor to lead production teams on rotating night shifts. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire shift, ensuring product quality, safety standards, and efficient plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain EHS and housekeeping standards throughout the shift.
• Ensure reactors and utilities are operational and report breakdowns immediately.
• Troubleshoot Data Control System issues together with operators.
• Issue permits, supervise emergency shutdowns and evacuations when required.
• Oversee all production processes, complete documentation and batch records accurately and on time.
• Monitor cycle times, investigate deviations, and ensure quality standards are met.
• Verify correct product packaging, labeling and preservation according to instructions.
• Provide clear handovers at shift change and manage waste and effluent plant capacities.
• Supervise approximately 10 staff members, enforcing safety, discipline and task delegation.

Required profile

• Matriculation with Mathematics and Science.
• Diploma in Chemical Engineering or Production Supervision (preferred).
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience and 5 years in chemical manufacturing processes.
• Experience with EHS practices, including First Aid and fire fighting.
• Intermediate computer literacy.
• Fluency in English and one additional official South African language.

Required skills
