Senior Engineering Manager

About the role

The Senior Manager (Engineering) will lead the planning, design and delivery of engineering infrastructure, housing and hostel development projects for the eThekwini municipality in Durban. Reporting to the Deputy Head, the role provides strategic direction, technical advice to councillors and communities, and ensures compliance with legislation and council policies.

Key responsibilities

• Manage implementation of engineering infrastructure, housing and hostel development and redevelopment projects.
• Provide advisory services to councillors and communities on business plans.
• Formulate strategic direction for the department in conjunction with the Deputy Head.
• Monitor relevant legislation, assess risk and report progress at branch level.
• Source provincial funding, liaise with the Provincial Department of Housing for approvals and financial matters.
• Maintain statistical records, ensure compliance with business plans and cashflows.
• Prepare tender and project reports for relevant committees.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor of Engineering Technology (NQF Level 7) in Civil Engineering.
• Registered Professional Civil Engineering Technologist with ECSA.
• Minimum 7 years relevant experience, including at least 5 years post‑registration.
• Valid motor vehicle driving licence.
• Computer literacy.
