Senior Civil Engineer – Infrastructure (Cape Town)

About the role

Our client, a leading specialist engineering consultancy, is seeking an exceptional Senior Civil Engineer to join their Infrastructure team. This is an excellent opportunity to act as a technical design lead, delivering high‑quality infrastructure projects across Southern Africa and beyond while mentoring the next generation of engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as technical design lead: oversee project delivery, undertake design work, and mentor junior and mid‑level staff.
• Lead and contribute to the detailed design of water/sewer reticulation, stormwater infrastructure, earthworks, and roads.
• Ensure full compliance with South African regulations, local authority requirements, and client specifications.
• Review, interrogate, and optimise designs for buildability, cost‑effectiveness, and quality.
• Assist with resource allocation, balancing team utilisation with staff professional development.
• Engage with stakeholders and manage client liaisons effectively.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years' progressive civil engineering experience focusing on infrastructure projects.
• Proven track record in leading technical teams or managing projects within consulting engineering environments.
• Advanced design experience in water and sewer reticulation, stormwater management, earthworks, and roads.
• In‑depth knowledge of South African engineering standards, SANS codes, and municipal regulatory requirements.
• Experience operating within matrix structures and pooled resource environments.
• Professional registration with ECSA as PrEng or PrTechEng.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
