Packing Operator – Machine Monitoring & Bin Cleaning

About the role

The Packing Operator ensures that packaging machines run smoothly while maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety and product quality. This role involves setting up, monitoring and cleaning equipment used to pack finished goods.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and set‑up packing machines to guarantee product quality, safety and efficiency.
• Coordinate finished‑product bin availability and perform bin cleaning activities.
• Operate mechanical hoists and block‑and‑tackle systems within certified capacity and report any deviations.
• Execute daily cleaning plans, including climbing or lowering into bins on scaffolding or bucket seats.
• Scrape, scour and brush bin walls and hoppers using hand tools.
• Fumigate bin interiors with insecticides, rodent deterrents or poisons using a spray gun and specialised tools.
• Lock out bins during fumigation and complete related documentation.
• Prepare daily activity reports and maintain operational records.
• Follow SOPs, quality control results and health‑and‑safety regulations.
• Participate in stock counts, investigate variances and implement corrective actions.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification with Maths and Science (preferred).
• Experience in a technical or operational environment is advantageous.
• Ability to work safely at height and handle cleaning equipment.
• Commitment to adhering to hygiene, health and safety standards.
