Operations Manager – Underground Mining

About the role

The Operations Manager will lead the Underground Mining (UG) discipline at Century Mine, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant delivery of mining operations. The role oversees systems, processes and teams while driving ESG compliance, budget optimisation and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Source, contract and negotiate with service providers.
• Maintain open communication and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Mines Department, DES, landowners and traditional owners.
• Uphold ESG compliance and support environmental rehabilitation initiatives.
• Plan and execute major projects, ensuring Cultural, Environmental and Administrative (CEA) compliance.
• Manage the operating budget, monitor physical and cost performance, and drive cost‑saving initiatives.
• Lead and develop mining operations teams, fostering cultural diversity, inclusivity and a safety‑first culture.
• Ensure availability of personnel, equipment and materials and oversee the operations schedule.
• Analyse operational data, take corrective actions and provide problem‑solving support.
• Approve operational expenditure, set budgeting parameters and formulate monthly/annual budgets.
• Promote SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) leadership and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competence.
• Minimum 7 years experience in mining operations, with at least 3 years in a management or specialist role.
• Clear security screening record and medically fit for the specific business area.
• Advantageous: NQF 7 (Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma) in Mining Engineering.
• Proven ability to lead large teams, manage budgets and drive ESG and safety initiatives.
