Natural Adabas Developer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Natural Adabas Developer to join a leading car‑rental organisation’s IT team in Johannesburg. You will work on core mainframe applications that support critical business processes, collaborating with senior stakeholders to ensure stability, performance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and implement application programs using Natural 4GL and Adabas.
• Analyse business and technical requirements and translate them into functional mainframe solutions.
• Conduct impact and feasibility studies to guide technical decisions.
• Maintain and enhance existing systems to optimise performance and reliability.
• Perform code reviews and mentor junior developers, enforcing coding standards.
• Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation and user guides.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for production environments.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) with a BSc in Information Systems, BCom in Business, Accounting or a related discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in Natural/Adabas development on mainframe platforms.
• Strong exposure to batch and online processing.
• Proven ability to design, build and maintain complex mainframe applications.
• Experience mentoring junior developers and conducting code reviews.
